Learn with the Bible in Spanish

When I was taking high school Spanish, my teacher required us to memorize Bible verses in Spanish. As you can imagine, this was a huge task for a Spanish 1 student! But by golly, we did it (mostly 😉).

I don't require Bible verse memorization in my classes, but sometimes I use verses as examples of verbs we are learning. Plus, I love showing students that they are capable of reading and understanding some Bible passages in Spanish. So cool!

In Spanish 1, students learn the two Spanish verbs that mean "to know" (yes, two verbs that mean the same thing... it can be confusing). When they learn SABER and CONOCER, I show them these two Bible verses that use both verbs:

"Yo soy el buen Pastor; y conozco mis ovejas, y las mías me conocen. Como el Padre me conoce, y yo conozco al Padre; y pongo mi alma por las ovejas." -Juan 10:14-15

"Pero a ti te conozco bien: sé dónde te encuentras, y cuándo entras y sales." -Isaias 37:28

Can your student read and understand these verses? It's never too early to start trying to read the Bible in Spanish and see what the Lord has to say as you read the scripture in another language 💗
